“失语”与“遮蔽”：巴基斯坦汉译英文小说在中国的传播困境及策略研究

“Aphasia” and “Invisibility”: A Study on the Dilemma of Communication and Strategies of Pakistani Chinese-to-English Novels in China

摘要: 作为巴基斯坦当代英语文学的代表作，《别人的房间，别样的景观》描绘了在现代与传统夹缝中挣扎的巴基斯坦社会图景。然而，该作中译本在中国的传播效果未及预期。本文结合翻译批评与副文本理论，对该译本进行个案研究，探究巴基斯坦英语文学在华的传播困境。研究发现，困境主要源于两大内因：一是译文存在明显的“翻译腔”，句法欧化现象损害了文本的可读性与文学性；二是译本副文本未能有效彰显其来源国文化身份，封面设计同质化与必要注释的缺失，共同削弱了作品的巴基斯坦民族特色。为破解此类小众国别文学的传播难题，本研究建议，应从提升译者跨文化转述能力、优化副文本建构策略以及强化国家层面的政策支持三方面协同发力。

Abstract: As a representative work of contemporary Pakistani Anglophone literature, In Other Rooms, Other Wonders depicts a social picture of Pakistan struggling between modernity and tradition. However, the Chinese translation of the work has not achieved the expected communication effect in China. This paper, adopting the perspectives of translation criticism and paratextual theory, conducts a case study on its Chinese version to investigate the obstacles hindering the dissemination of Pakistani Anglophone literature. The study identifies two primary internal causes for the dilemma: firstly, the translation is marred by conspicuous “translationese”, with Europeanized syntax undermining its readability and literary quality. Secondly, the paratext of the Chinese version fails to highlight the work’s national identity, as homogenized cover designs and a lack of necessary annotations weaken its distinct Pakistani characteristics. To address these challenges for literature from less-translated nations, this paper proposes a three-pronged strategy: enhancing translators’ cross-cultural competence, optimizing paratextual construction, and strengthening top-level policy support.
