A Brief Overview of Mongolian and Western Medical Approaches in Treating Knee Osteoarthritis

摘要: 膝关节骨性关节炎(KOA)是临床高发病症，与多种骨关节疾病相关，且受饮食、环境、心理情绪影响，严重危害人群健康与生活质量。治疗方面，西医多通过药物(如非甾体抗炎药)、物理治疗或手术(如关节置换术)缓解症状、改善功能；蒙医药则依托悠久历史与丰富临床经验，以辨证施治为核心，通过内服外治等手段实现疗效显著、不良反应少的治疗效果。本文梳理相关研究，系统对比论述KOA的蒙医与西医治疗路径，为临床治疗选择及蒙医药现代化研究提供参考。

Abstract: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a highly prevalent clinical condition associated with various osteoarticular disorders. It is influenced by factors such as diet, environment, and psychological state, significantly impacting patients’ health and quality of life. In terms of treatment, Western medicine primarily employs pharmacological approaches (e.g., nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), physical therapy, or surgical interventions (e.g., joint replacement) to alleviate symptoms and improve functional outcomes. In contrast, Mongolian medicine, with its long history and extensive clinical experience, emphasizes treatment based on syndrome differentiation. Through internal administration and external therapies, it achieves notable efficacy with minimal adverse effects. This review summarizes relevant research and systematically compares the treatment approaches of Mongolian medicine and Western medicine for KOA, aiming to provide insights for clinical decision-making and support the modernization of Mongolian medical research.
