Abstract: This study aims to explore the symbolism and psychological effects of color in black comedy films, as well as its role in cinematic narration. With the development of film technology, color has become an essential visual element for conveying characters’ psychology, social contexts, and satirical messages. In black comedies, the use of vivid or non-conventional colors serves to emphasize character traits, emotional states, and the contradictions or ironies of situations, thereby enhancing the audience’s psychological experience and emotional resonance. The study conducts a literature review on theories of color psychology and selects four black comedy films from both domestic and international contexts as analytical cases. Using the Korean Standard Color Analysis (KSCA) method, the research examines the main visual frames of the films, focusing on brightness, saturation, and color relationships. By analyzing the proportions and combinations of monochromatic and composite color schemes, the study reveals the close interrelation between color, narrative structures, and emotional contexts in black comedy films. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of color as both a psychological and narrative medium in cinema and provide useful insights for the creation and analysis of black comedy films.
