Abstract: In Eileen Chang’s The Golden Cangue, the moon, as a core literary image, carries multiple connotations. It not only serves as a key tool to illustrate the passage of time and changes in space, but also becomes a unique way for Chang to depict the trajectory of women’s fates. This eternal bright moon is like a bystander, watching indifferently the ups and downs and deeply tragic lives of the three core female characters—Cao Qiqiao, Chang’an, and Zhishou. Through the elaborate arrangement of the moon imagery, Chang vividly presents the ups and downs of women’s fates in the old society and their sense of helplessness, demonstrating her profound concern for women’s fates and in-depth reflection on the social reality of that time.
