Abstract: Clinical supervision serves as a critical mechanism in safeguarding client welfare and fostering the professional development of counselors. The supervisee’s attachment style, as a significant individual variable, exerts a profound influence on the supervisory relationship, process, and outcomes, with effects extending to the counseling process and the counselor’s own professional growth. This article systematically reviews the impact of supervisee attachment, which manifests primarily across three dimensions: at the supervisory level, it significantly affects the supervisory relationship, the supervisory working alliance, the supervisee’s self-disclosure behaviors, and supervisory outcomes; at the counseling level, its impact involves the counseling working alliance, the therapeutic relationship and professional conduct, empathy and countertransference awareness, counseling efficacy, and session depth; at the individual counselor level, it is linked to professional development, well-being, and psychological resilience. Future research should be grounded in the Chinese cultural context to investigate the unique shaping influence of cultural factors such as authority orientation on supervisee attachment, develop localized and valid measurement tools, deepen the exploration of its underlying mechanisms, and formulate targeted supervisory intervention strategies. These efforts aim to mitigate the potential negative effects of insecure attachment, thereby ultimately enhancing the quality of clinical supervision and counseling services and advancing the professionalization of the mental health services industry.
