翻译转换视角下的医学科普视频字幕翻译分析——以TED视频《胃溃疡令人惊讶的原因》为例

Analysis of Subtitle Translation of Medical Science Popularization Videos from the Perspective of Catford Transformation Theory—Taking the TED Video “The Surprising Cause of Stomach Ulcers” as an Example

摘要: 国际上优秀的医学科普是中国大众获取科学健康知识的重要手段之一，因此医学科普类视频字幕的英汉翻译变得日益迫切。基于此背景，本文以TED医学科普视频《胃溃疡令人惊讶的原因》的字幕翻译作为研究对象，以卡特福德(John C. Catford)的翻译转换理论为基础，从层次转换和范畴转换两个维度对该视频中的典型案例展开分析。医学科普翻译兼具专业性与通俗性，这对译文的准确性与可接受度提出较高要求。翻译转换理论在该类文本的汉译过程中具有普遍适用性，能够有效指导语法与词汇层面的调整，并且实现医学信息传递与受众理解之间的平衡。本文旨在为医学科普类视频字幕的翻译实践提供理论参照与方法论借鉴。

Abstract: High-quality international medical science popularization serves as an important means for the Chinese public to acquire scientific health knowledge. Consequently, the English-Chinese translation of subtitles for medical science popularization videos has become increasingly imperative. Against this backdrop, typical cases selected from the subtitle translation of the TED medical science popularization video “The Surprising Cause of Stomach Ulcers” are analyzed from the dimensions of level shifts and category shifts in this paper, based on Catford Transformation Theory. Medical science popularization translation focuses on both professionalism and accessibility, thereby placing high demands on the accuracy and acceptability of the target text. Catford Transformation Theory is broadly applicable in the Chinese translation of such texts, effectively guiding adjustments at grammatical and lexical levels while balancing the transmission of medical information and audience comprehension. This research aims to provide theoretical and methodological references for the translation practice of subtitles in medical science popularization videos.
