Corpus-Based Investigation on the Semantic Prosody of Characteristic Vocabulary in Traditional Chinese Medicine

摘要: 中医科普著作的英译对中医文化的国际传播至关重要。本研究运用语料库方法，分析中医权威学者著作英译本中核心关键词Qi (气)和Heart (心)的语义韵。发现Qi与Blood (血)、Deficiency (虚)、Flow (流)等词高频搭配，呈现的语义韵较为均衡，体现出中医对生命活动的整体动态平衡观；Heart (心)则与Spirit (神)、Governs (主宰)等词紧密相关，积极语义韵显著，凸显了“心”在中医理论的核心地位。这些发现不仅有助于深化对中医关键概念的理解，还为中医文化的国际传播积累素材，在语言学层面映照出中医理论的独特价值。

Abstract: The translation of popular science literature on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is vital for advancing its global cultural dissemination. Employing a corpus-based approach, this study analyzes the semantic prosody of the core concepts, Qi (气) and Heart (心), in English translations of authoritative TCM scholars’ works. It’s found that Qi frequently co-occurs with terms such as Blood (血), Deficiency (虚), and Flow (流), demonstrating a relatively balanced semantic prosody. This reflects TCM’s holistic and dynamic equilibrium view of life activities. Conversely, Heart is intimately linked with concepts like Spirit (神) and Governs (主宰), exhibiting a markedly positive semantic prosody that highlights its pivotal role in TCM theory. These insights deepen the comprehension of key TCM concepts, provide valuable material for the international dissemination of TCM culture and underscore the distinctive value of TCM theory at the linguistic level.
