功能对等理论视角下《封神第一部:朝歌风云》字幕翻译研究
Study on Subtitle Translation in “Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms” Based on Functional Equivalence Approach
摘要: 本文基于功能对等理论,分析电影《封神第一部:朝歌风云》字幕翻译中文化信息的传递策略。作为融合中国传统文化与现代视效的史诗作品,其字幕不仅需传递剧情,更承担着文化输出的重要使命。研究发现,译者费翔在翻译中灵活结合了形式对等与动态对等策略。针对人名、地名等文化专有项,多采用音译方式保留文化的异质性;而对文化负载词,则通过意译或改写实现动态对等,以适应西方观众的认知背景,确保产生与源语观众近似的理解与反应。研究表明,功能对等理论能有效指导字幕翻译在有限时空内实现文化信息的跨语言传递。该研究不仅验证了理论在影视翻译中的适用性,也为中国神话史诗电影的对外传播提供了实践参考,有助于在文化保留与观众接受之间找到平衡,提升中国电影的国际传播效果。
Abstract: Based on the theory of Functional Equivalence, this paper analyzes the strategies for transmitting cultural information in the subtitle translation of the film “Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms”. As an epic that integrates traditional Chinese culture with modern visual effects, the film’s subtitles are tasked not only with conveying the plot but also with facilitating cultural export. The study finds that the translator, Kris Phillips, flexibly employed both formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence strategies. For culture-specific items such as personal and place names, transliteration was predominantly used to preserve cultural foreignness. In the case of culture-loaded expressions, however, dynamic equivalence was achieved through free translation or adaptation, aligning with Western viewers’ cognitive frameworks to ensure their comprehension and response approximate those of the source-language audience. The research demonstrates that Functional Equivalence can effectively guide the cross-lingual transmission of cultural meaning within the spatiotemporal constraints of subtitling. This study not only validates the applicability of the theory in audiovisual translation but also offers practical insights for the global dissemination of Chinese mythological epic films. It contributes to balancing cultural authenticity with audience receptivity, thereby enhancing the international impact of Chinese cinema.
