Abstract: Since its inception by Chomsky in the 1950s, generative grammar has evolved through four developmental stages: emergence and initial development, revision, rapid development, and new development, and has successively emerged early theories, Standard Theory, Extended Standard Theory, Government and Binding Theory, and Minimalist Program. In the process of development, grammar has been questioned from various fields, but it has also been applied to multiple aspects such as phonetics, semantics, and language acquisition. At the same time, it has integrated with psychology, philosophy, computer science, artificial intelligence, and other fields. Against the backdrop of the rise of large language models, clarifying the development trajectory of generative grammar and reflecting on the opportunities and challenges it faces can promote innovation and development of generative grammar in a wider range of fields.
