Abstract: In the field of emotion regulation research, cognitive reappraisal strategies have traditionally been compared as a unified whole with other regulatory strategies. However, self-focused reappraisal and situation-focused reappraisal, as two subtypes of cognitive reappraisal strategies, exhibit significant differences in their modes of explanation and regulatory perspectives. Although the importance of these two strategies is increasingly recognized, systematic research and comparative analysis of them are still lacking. This paper, based on existing studies, conducts an in-depth analysis of the theoretical foundations and similarities and differences between self-focused reappraisal and situation-focused reappraisal, and discusses their selection mechanisms. Furthermore, the paper also prospects the potential directions and application prospects of these two strategies in future research, aiming to promote the in-depth development of emotion regulation strategy research.
