评价理论视域下《红高粱家族》中英文本比较与海外接受度研究
Comparison between the Chinese and English Versions of Red Sorghum and the Overseas Reception under the Appraisal Theory Perspective
摘要: 本研究基于评价理论框架,运用数字人文方法,对莫言小说《红高粱家族》的中文原作及其英译本展开系统考察。通过对比分析原作与英译本的语言特征,并参照兰卡斯特现代汉语语料库与布朗语料库,揭示两者在叙事风格与词汇使用方面的差异。同时,借助对亚马逊平台英译本在线评论的情感分析,探究海外读者的接受态度。研究发现,原作在叙事手法和词汇丰富度方面具有鲜明特色,而英译本在语言表达上做出了适应目标读者的调整。情感分析结果显示,海外读者对英译本整体评价积极,但在暴力场景描写及文化差异处理方面存在一定争议。本研究为文学翻译研究提供了新的分析视角,并为中国文学在海外的传播和接受提供了实证参考,具有一定的理论价值与实践意义。
Abstract: This study employs digital humanities methods and an Appraisal Theory framework to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Mo Yan’s novel Red Sorghum and its English version Red Sorghum: A Novel of China by Howard Goldblatt. The research not only examines the linguistic feature differences between the original work and its English version, the original work and the Lancaster Corpus of Mandarin Chinese, and the English version and the Brown Corpus, but also investigates the emotional attitudes of overseas readers towards the English version on the Amazon platform through sentiment analysis of online reviews. It is found that the original work has a unique narrative style and rich vocabulary usage, while the English version has made linguistic adjustments to cater to the target readers. Sentiment analysis of reader reviews shows that overseas readers generally have a positive evaluation of the English translation, but there are controversies regarding the depiction of violence and cultural differences. This study provides a new perspective for literary translation research and offers empirical insights into the dissemination and reception of Chinese literature overseas, with significant theoretical and practical implications.
