In Guiping City, restaurant names exhibit a phonetic trend peaking at three syllables with a decreasing pattern on either side. In terms of syllable count, three, four, and five-syllable names predominate, featuring diverse syllable types and predominantly alternating level and rising tones. The “belonging” component highlights personal names, place names, auspicious connotations, and time-honored brands, while the “business” component indicates operational categories, regional characteristics, or culinary specialties. Generic names are rarely used. To emphasize distinctiveness and enhance memorability, rhetorical devices like homophones, irony, and neologisms are frequently employed. Influenced by geography, history, economics, and social psychology, Guiping restaurant names reflect strong regional identity and culinary culture, intense auspicious beliefs and well-wishing sentiments, intimate “home” culture and human warmth, as well as cultural characteristics blending ethnic traditions with foreign influences.
