Abstract: Semantic transparency refers to the degree to which a word is semantically related to its constituent morphemes. In recent years, the research on semantic transparency mainly focuses on cognitive psycholinguistics, and explores the role of semantic transparency in the processing of compound words through different experimental means. This review will help people to understand the status of semantic transparency in compound word processing and the main trend of empirical research, provide a new perspective for future research on compound word processing, and also provide a reference for the combination of semantic transparency with other disciplines.
