儿童成长小说的翻译策略研究——以《布鲁克林有棵树》汉译本为例
Research on Translation Strategies for Children’s Coming-of-Age Novel—Taking the Chinese Translation of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn as an Example
摘要: 本文以Betty Smith的经典成长小说《布鲁克林有棵树》为研究对象,对比分析了冯瑞贞版和方柏林版的中文译文,探讨了两版译文在翻译策略上的异同及其对译文效果的影响。通过对词汇层面、句法层面以及文化层面的例子分析,本文揭示了不同翻译策略如何影响译文的可读性、文化传达以及读者接受度。研究发现,冯瑞贞版更倾向于归化策略,注重译文的流畅性和文化适应性,技巧上多用四字格、意译文化负载词、替换、分句;而方柏林版则更注重异化策略,强调保留原文的文化特色和语言风格,技巧上多用音译、保留长句、脚注。两版译文各有优劣,但都为儿童读者提供了独特的阅读体验。
Abstract: This study examines Betty Smith’s classic coming-of-age novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn as a primary text and conducts a comparative analysis of the Chinese translations by Feng Ruizhen and Fang Bailin. The study investigates the similarities and differences in translation strategies between the two versions and their effects on the translation quality. Through the analysis of examples at the lexical, syntactic, and cultural levels, this paper reveals how different translation strategies influence the readability, cultural transmission, and reader reception of the translations. The findings indicate that Feng Ruizhen’s translation adopts a more domestication-oriented strategy, prioritizing textual fluency and cultural adaptability of the translation through the use of four-character idiomatic expressions, adaptive rendering of culture-specific terms, substitution, and sentence segmentation. In contrast, Fang Bailin’s translation embraces a foreignization-focused approach, aiming to preserve the source text’s linguistic style and cultural authenticity by employing transliteration, maintaining complex sentence structures, and providing explanatory footnotes. While each translation exhibits its own strengths and limitations, both offer valuable and distinctive reading experiences for child readers.
