Abstract: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), a distinct chronic neuropathic pain disorder, demonstrates a complex bidirectional association with sleep disturbances. This review synthesizes the fundamental pathophysiological mechanisms of pain, the unique neurobiological features of TN, and the psychiatric underpinnings of sleep disorders, thereby elucidating the intricate interplay between pain and sleep. Integrating ferroptosis theory and evidence from animal studies with clinical observational data, the analysis highlights the mechanisms underlying TN-related secondary sleep disturbances as well as the role of primary sleep disorders in precipitating pain recurrence. Based on these insights, targeted clinical management strategies are proposed, with particular attention to potential pharmacological interactions.
