Abstract: Objective: To empirically investigate the efficacy of music interventions on depression and anxiety among medical students. Methods: Eighty medical students with scores on the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) exceeding 53 were recruited and randomly allocated to either an experimental group or a control group, with 40 participants in each group. Students in the experimental group underwent a therapist-guided music intervention for 30 minutes once daily over a period of 4 weeks, while those in the control group received no intervention. The levels of depression and anxiety were measured using the SDS and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) before and after the intervention to assess the impact of the music intervention on depressive and anxious symptoms. Results: After 4 weeks of music intervention, there was a significant reduction in the scores of depression and anxiety in the experimental group, while no significant alterations were detected in the control group. Conclusion: Music intervention can mitigate symptoms of depression and anxiety in medical students.
