A Brief Analysis of the Pragmatic Connotations of English and Chinese Euphemisms in Cross-Cultural Communication

摘要: 委婉语作为一种跨文化、跨语言的表达策略，常通过含蓄暗示、间接烘托等方式，使交流在更得体、更礼貌的语境中进行，成为人际协调中不可或缺的沟通艺术。这一修辞手法往往承载着特定的文化传统、价值取向及民族心理特征。随着中外交流日益密切，英汉文化互动不断深化，两种语言中委婉语的使用也更为频繁，其在跨文化交际中的翻译问题，尤其是文化内涵的准确传递，显得愈发重要。

Abstract: Euphemism is an expression method that transcends cultures and languages. People use indirect hints and subtle embellishments to express their views in a more appropriate and polite manner during communication, making it an indispensable lubricant for harmonious relationships. This rhetorical method is imbued with different cultural traditions, values, and national characteristics. As China’s global exchanges deepen, the degree of intercultural communication between English and Chinese is also increasing. The mutual use of euphemisms in these two languages is becoming more widespread, and the translation of the cultural connotations of euphemisms in intercultural communication is becoming increasingly important.
