Abstract: This study aims to explore the moderating role of social support in the relationship between social exclusion experiences and social anxiety among college students, as well as the mediating role of interpersonal sensitivity in this process. Using convenience sampling, 513 college students from a vocational college in Chongqing were surveyed with questionnaires on social exclusion, interpersonal sensitivity, social support, and social anxiety. The results showed that: (1) social exclusion experiences significantly and positively predicted social anxiety; (2) interpersonal sensitivity mediated the relationship between social exclusion experiences and social anxiety; (3) social support moderated the mediating pathway in which social exclusion experiences influence social anxiety through interpersonal sensitivity, meaning that high social support could weaken the positive impact of social exclusion experiences on interpersonal sensitivity, thereby reducing the level of social anxiety. These findings offer a new perspective for understanding the formation mechanism of social anxiety in college students and provide a theoretical basis for developing targeted interventions.
