多模态视角下典籍漫画蔡志忠《孔子说》英译本视觉资源的意义建构
The Construction of Meaning in Visual Resources: A Multimodal Analysis of the English Translation of Tsai Chih Chung’s Classic Comic Confucius: The Analects
摘要: 伴随数字技术的发展与视觉文化转向的持续深化,典籍翻译亟需打破单一语言模态的边界,设计多模态配合的创新实施路径。本研究以Kress和Leeuwen (1996)的视觉语法理论为框架,结合Painter等人(2013)对视觉语法理论的补充以及林琳等人(2024)对视觉语法理论框架的总结,深刻剖析《孔子说》英译漫画里视觉资源的意义建构方式。研究发现:通过人际、概念及语篇三个维度的意义协调,完成儒学抽象概念的具象化传递,切实降低了英语受众的解读门槛,为《论语》增添当代艺术魅力与跨文化传播动力。
Abstract: With the development of digital technology and the continuous deepening of the visual culture shift, the translation of classic texts urgently needs to break the boundaries of the single language modality and design innovative implementation paths that integrate multiple modalities. This study, based on the visual grammar theory proposed by Kress and Leeuwen (1996), combined with the supplements to the theory by Painter et al. (2013) and the summary of the theoretical framework by Lin Lin et al. (2024), deeply analyzes the way visual resources construct meaning in the English translation comics of Confucius: The Analects. The research finds that through the coordination of meanings in the interpersonal, conceptual, and textual dimensions, the abstract concepts of Confucianism are concretized and transmitted, effectively lowering the interpretation threshold for English-speaking audiences and adding contemporary artistic charm and cross-cultural communication impetus to The Analects of Confucius.
