Spatial and Narrative Representations of “The Beat Generation” Identity in Jack Kerouac’s On the Road

摘要: 《在路上》是美国“垮掉派”作家杰克·凯鲁亚克的成名作，小说围绕主人公四次北美洲公路旅行经历展开，地理空间的不断变化是小说情节推动的主要动力。作为对于公路旅行经历的叙事回顾，小说依靠叙事中的记忆空间连接现实与文本，将意义由真实的旅程经历编码进了叙事文本当中，实现了历史空间与文本空间之间的意义表征。本文聚焦于凯鲁亚克关于“垮掉的一代”共享精神内核的书写，通过对于小说中凯鲁亚克记忆中关于“垮掉的一代”旅途经历与人生探索的叙事呈现，本文分析“垮掉的一代”对心灵安定与感官享受间的矛盾追求，揭示美国二战后亚文化群体身份认同。

Abstract: On the Road is the masterpiece of Jack Kerouac, the representative American writer of the “Beat Generation.” The novel tells the protagonist’s road trip experiences across North America. The constant changes in geographical space are the main driving force for the novel’s narration. As the story is a retrospective narrative of the road trip experiences, the memory space in the book, connecting reality and the narrative text, is the medium of representation between historical space and textual space. Focusing on Kerouac’s writing of the shared spiritual core of the “Beat Generation”, this study analyses Jack Kerouac’s narration of the Beat Generation’s journey experiences and life exploration, this study analyses the Beat Generation’s contradictory pursuit of spiritual tranquility and sensory pleasure, revealing the postwar American subcultural group identity.
