Abstract: Cormac McCarthy’s latest novel The Road has been widely acclaimed ever since its debut in 2006. In view of the depiction of the horror of a post-apocalyptic world, this essay is an investigation of the mode of the journey of the father and the son and the unique pattern of its narrative in relation to the content, in an attempt to throw light on the father’s belief that there is no way to bring salvation back for human, and if there is any, then suffering is the only salvation.
