Jeffrey’s Loss of the Self and Identity Reconstruction in Zero K—From the Perspective of Existentialism
Abstract:
Don DeLillo, a prominent contemporary novelist, depicts an technical utopia, where people can gain immortality in his newly published novel, Zero K. The protagonist, Jeffrey growing up in a single-parent family is puzzled about his identity. And in the Convergence, he is on the brink of losing his self-identity. Then he makes some free choices and reconstructs his identity. Jeffrey’s state of anxiety and puzzlement is the very epitome of the living state of postmodern human beings. And the whole thread corresponds to the existentialist view.
