Abstract: The present study used Continuous Flash Suppression paradigm and 2 (animal face species: cat, tiger) × 3 (animal face attractiveness level: attractive, neutral, unattractive) within subject design to investigate effect of invisible animal facial attractiveness cues on inhibition of return of attention. Results show that participants showed no different preference to animal faces with different levels of attractiveness in the unconscious conditions. This suggests that animal facial attractiveness does not attract people's attention in an invisible condition, which to a certain extent supports that the mate quality accounts for people's preference for attractive faces.
