Stylistic Analysis on Maugham’s Mr. Know-All

摘要: 《万事通先生》为毛姆所著短篇小说，以其惟妙惟肖的人物描写塑造了不同的人物个性，揭露了后殖民时代社会中存在的人种歧视、身份认同等问题。文章在文学文体学的角度下，从词汇、语法、修辞、语篇等层面对《万事通先生》的文体特征进行分析，以探讨毛姆如何在有限的篇幅中塑造多位个性鲜明、性格饱满的人物形象，同时揭露人物身处世界的社会和政治问题。

Abstract: Mr. Know-all is a short story written by William Somerset Maugham. With vivid description of characters, it shapes different personalities and exposes the problems of racial discrimination and identity in the post-colonial era. From the perspective of literary stylistics, this paper attempts to analyze the stylistic features from the aspects of vocabulary, grammar, figure of speech and discourse. This paper aims to explore how Maugham created several characters with distinct personalities in a limited space, and how Maugham exposed the social and political problems of that time.
