评价理论视域下中美新冠疫情报道对比研究
A Comparative Study on the Report of the COVID-19 in China and the United States from the Perspective of Appraisal Theory
摘要: 系统功能语言学下的评价理论可以理解独白语篇中的人际意义，体会话语中的感情表达。近几年新冠疫情全球蔓延，文章采用评价系统理论，着重从态度系统处理语料，对比分析中方和美方关于新冠报道的立场与态度。研究发现西方媒体较多使用鉴赏类词语，批判性地表达对新冠类报道的看法；而中方媒体较多使用积极的判断与情感类词语，表达我国抗疫的有效、及时的举措。将该理论运用到实践中，会更好地推动理论在我国的应用发展。
Abstract: The appraisal theory under systemic functional linguistics can understand the interpersonal meaning in monologue discourse and appreciate the expression of feelings in discourse. With the global spread of the COVID-19 in recent years, the article adopts the appraisal theory, focusing on the attitude system to compare and analyze the positions and attitudes of Chinese and American reports on the COVID-19. It is found that Western media use more appreciative words to critically express their views on the COVID-19 reports, while Chinese media use more judgmental and affective words to positively express China’s effective and timely initiatives to fight against the epidemic. Applying the theory to practice will better promote the development of the theory’s application in China.
