Abstract: The contemporary American Indian author Louise Erdrich’s latest novel The Night Watchman reveals that the American government executed a new termination policy by means of laws, instead of the bloody military conquest in the 1950s~1960s. What’s more, this novel reflects the great efforts to survive and the precious spirit core of the American Indians. The rediscovering of the neglected history, the theme of resisting against injustice and the manifested national spirit core, are timely and enlightening to the contemporary world.
