文学伦理学批评视域下《长日将尽》中史蒂文斯的伦理选择解读

An Interpretation of Stevens’ Ethical Choice in The Remains of the Day from the Perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism

摘要: 以文学伦理学批评理论为研究视角，选取英籍日裔小说家石黑一雄的小说《长日将尽》为研究对象，通过文本细读对《长日将尽》中的男主人公史蒂文斯的伦理选择表现进行分析并溯源。研究发现，史蒂文斯对伟大事业的追求以及对职业尊严的强烈坚持使他失去了亲情和爱情，扭曲的伦理观念给他的人生蒙上了浓厚的悲剧色彩。文章旨在使读者对这部作品的认识更加立体，以期为小说的研究提供新的解读视角。

Abstract: The Remains of the Day, a fiction by Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro. From the perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism, this paper reinterprets The Remains of the Day by means of close reading, and analyzes the ethical choice of the hero Stevens, and then make a preliminary exploration on the factors that influence Stevens’ choice. According to research findings, Stevens’ pursuit of great cause and his strong insistence on professional dignity make him lose his family affection and love, and his distorted ethical idea cast a strong tragic color on his life. This paper aims to make readers have a more three-dimensional understanding of this work, hoping to provide a new perspective for the study of this novel.
