The Exploration of Human Fate in Posthuman-Themed Films—A Case Study of Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner Series
Abstract: With the rapid advancement of technology and the ever-expanding capitalist system, posthuman-themed films have become a crucial medium for exploring issues of human identity, free will, and moral ethics. This paper takes Ghost in the Shell and the Blade Runner series as examples, analyzing how these works, through their cyberpunk aesthetics and narrative content, convey profound reflections on human destiny. The paper examines how, in the posthuman context, traditional humanism’s notions of bodily and spiritual sovereignty are questioned and negated, and how such negations lead to a redefinition of the meaning of human life. By analyzing the protagonists’ choices in these films—struggles between technology and traditional notions of self—the paper reveals how posthuman cinema challenges and reconstructs the essence of humanity. These films not only critique technological hegemony and capitalist control but also provide valuable insights into future ethics and self-understanding through their exploration of human destiny.
