ChatGPT对物质文化负载词翻译效果对比研究——以杨宪益译本《红楼梦》为例

A Comparative Study on the Translation Effects of Material Culture-Loaded Words by ChatGPT —Taking Yang Xianyi’s Translation of A Dream in Red Mansions as an Example

摘要: 近年来，机器翻译越发普遍，ChatGPT作为人工智能技术驱动的自然语言处理工具，在普通文本的翻译中表现优异，但应用于特定体裁及文化背景的文本时，译文质量尚有提升空间。因此本文以杨宪益译本《红楼梦》这一经典文学翻译作品为例，从准确性、可读性、文化传达三个角度，对译本中的物质文化负载词进行对比研究，并根据研究结果对古典文学作品翻译工作及其译后编辑提出建议。

Abstract: In recent years, machine translation has become increasingly prevalent. As an artificial intelligence technology-driven natural language processing tool, ChatGPT has performed exceptionally well in the translation of general texts. However, when applied to texts of specific genres and cultural backgrounds, there is still room for improvement in the quality of the translations. Therefore, this paper takes Yang Xianyi’s translation of the classic literary work A Dream in Red Mansions as an example, and conducts a comparative study on the material culture-loaded words in the translation from the perspectives of accuracy, readability, and cultural conveyance. Based on the research findings, suggestions are proposed for the translation work of classical literary works and their post-translation editing.
