On the Narrative of Things in Delillo’s White Noise
Abstract: In Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise, there are extensive depictions of “objects”, including everyday objects, objects that pose threats to human health and evoke fear, as well as seemingly hopeful “spiritual” objects. Throughout the novel, the portrayal of objects makes readers keenly aware of their powerful presence. It is precisely this tension of materiality that drives the narrative forward. With his ingenious depictions, Don DeLillo breaks away from traditional narrative perspectives, highlighting the significant role of objects in the novel and establishing White Noise as a classic of postmodern literature.
