Through subtle hints of destiny woven into the dual perspectives of the main narrative and the supplemental section, City of Fiction meticulously unravels the trajectories of these lives. Rather than merely leveraging perspectival differences to superficially drive the tragedy, Yu Hua delves deeper into the inextricable intertwining of individual destinies and their era, exposing the inevitability of tragedy. Despite the icy inescapability of fate, Yu Hua preserves a touch of human warmth here, seeking to dilute the intensity of suffering by illuminating the resilience of humanity that shines through under the weight of destiny.
