索引的污渍与黑洞——齐泽克屏幕理论视域下金波特的身份悖论

The Stain and the Black Hole of the Index—The Identity Paradox of Kinbote through the Lens of Žižek’s Screen Theory

摘要: 纳博科夫的小说《微暗的火》由四个部分构成，分别为前言、“微暗的火”(一首四个篇章的长诗)、评注和索引。依据希碧尔·谢德、哥尔斯华斯等小说重要人物在评注者金波特编纂的索引中如同污渍被涂抹和如同黑洞般缺位的文本现象，结合可能世界模型与齐泽克对真实/实在界在视觉建构方式上形成的屏幕理论，论证索引作为现实与实在界之间、维护金波特身份的典型屏幕，暴露了金波特没有他声称的重要性、没有结构作用、没有评注权威甚至金波特并不存在的身份悖论。

Abstract: Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Pale Fire consists of four parts: a Foreword, the poem “Pale Fire” (a long poem in four cantos), a Commentary, and an Index. Based on the textual phenomenon whereby key characters in the novel, such as Sybil Shade and Gradus, are either smeared like a stain or absent like a black hole within the Index compiled by the commentator Kinbote, this paper combines the possible worlds model with Slavoj Žižek’s screen theory—which concerns the visual construction of the Real/the Real—to argue that the Index, as a typical screen between reality and the Real that upholds Kinbote’s identity, exposes the paradox of his identity: he lacks the importance he claims, serves no structural function, possesses no authoritative stance as a commentator, and may not even exist.
