《长日留痕》的时空体艺术
The Art of Chronotope in The Remains of the Day
摘要: 石黑一雄的《长日留痕》通过双线叙事结构实现了时空穿越的艺术效果。小说中的两个艺术意象——“达林顿府”与“乡村旅程”——分别对应巴赫金时空体理论中的“城堡时空体”与“道路时空体”。“达林顿府”体现了大英帝国的文化与秩序,而“乡村旅程”则隐喻了主人公兼叙述者史蒂文斯的人生道路与个人成长。通过空间的并置,这两个时空体之间形成了一种“对话”关系,指向大英帝国历史的“城堡时空体”与反映战后英国社会新变化的“道路时空体”探讨了国家与个人身份的问题。本文分析了《长日留痕》中这两个艺术意象的时空体特征,揭示了小说中蕴含的历史、成长与身份主题。
Abstract: Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day achieves an artistic effect of time-space traversal through a dual narrative structure. The two artistic images in the novel—“Darlington Hall” and “countryside journey”—correspond respectively to the “castle chronotope” and the “road chronotope” in Bakhtin’s chronotope theory. “Darlington Hall” embodies the culture and order of the British Empire, while “countryside journey” metaphorically denotes the life path and personal growth of the protagonist and narrator, Stevens. Through the juxtaposition of spaces, a “dialogic” relationship is formed between these two chronotopes: the “castle chronotope” that points to the history of the British Empire and the “road chronotope” that reflects the new social changes in post-war Britain, engaging in an exploration of national and individual identity issues. This paper analyzes the chronotopic features of these two artistic images in The Remains of the Day, revealing the inherent themes of history, growth, and identity in the novel.
